South Carolina Bail Bondsman Checklist

Step 1

Take the state mandated 30hr bail bondsman runner course

• Receive completion certificate at completion
• $400

Step 2

Register for the state mandated 19-16 bail bondsman/runner test

• Call 1-800-733-9267, or register at https://candidate.psiexams.com
• $45 per scheduled test
• YOU MUST BRING COPY OF DL, AND CLASS COMPLETION CERTIFICATE THE DAY OF TESTING

Step 3

Self-study or register for the 19-08 surety insurance producer course

• Self-study- $200 for all materials
• Classroom instruction- $300
• If self-study materials have been purchased, returning to class will only be an additional $200

Step 4

Register for the state mandated 19-08 surety insurance producer test

• Call 1-800-733-9267, or register at https://candidate.psiexams.com
• $45 per scheduled test
• YOU MUST BRING COPY OF DL

Step 5

Register for fingerprinting

• Call  (844) 321-2124, or register at https://www.identogo.com/contact
• $50.75 for fingerprinting cost
• This includes your SLED and FBI background check
• Keep receipt it must be mailed into the SCDOI with your application

Step 6

Have a passport size photograph taken

• This can be done at most CVS/Walgreens locations

Step 7

Apply for your South Carolina surety insurance producer license

• Print a copy of the limited lines producer application at http://doi.sc.gov/481/Producer          
• Include a copy of your passing PSI test score
• Include a copy of your Identigo fingerprint receipt
• Include a passport size photograph
• $25 Application fee
• Mail to the SCDOI at 

              1201 Main St. Suite 1000           
              Columbia, SC 29201

Step 8

Once you receive your Limited Line producer license you may apply for your surety bondsman license.

• Complete a copy of the professional bondsman, surety bondsman, runner application at http://www.doi.sc.gov/391/Licensing-Requirements
• Include a copy of your 30hr class completion certificate
• A copy of your passing PSI test score
• A copy of your limited lines producer license
• A copy of your fingerprinting receipt
• A passport size photograph
• Mail to the SCDOI at 

                 1201 Main St. Suite 1000           
                 Columbia, SC 29201

Step 9

Wait on the SCDOI to process your application, you will receive confirmation of your acceptance or denial to the address you have provided!
